Dental Examinations
Regular dental examinations are key to maintaining good oral health and a healthy smile. You may not feel there is anything wrong with your teeth but it is essential to have regular check-ups to keep your mouth healthy, ensure any issues are dealt with as soon as possible or better still, prevent them altogether. Our Practice Plans have been designed with your routine dental care in mind and spread the cost of your annual dental examinations and hygiene appointments over 12 monthly payments. Our patients have the peace of mind that by attending regularly we are best placed to catch developing problems, reducing the risk of treatment and intervention.
Fillings
Dental fillings are used to fill cavities (holes that can form your teeth) or repair other damage such as a chipped tooth. Without treatment, a cavity or chipped tooth can lead to toothache, bad breath, infection, and even the fracturing or loss of your teeth. Cavities get bigger over time, so the sooner they’re spotted and filled, the less likely you are to have problems later. The most common type of fillings are amalgam fillings however for more visible areas of the mouth, many patients prefer composite (white) fillings, which more closely match the colour of your teeth.
Inlays & Onlays
If a standard filling isn’t suitable, your Dentist may recommend an inlay or onlays. These types of fillings are more suitable for larger chewing surfaces, such as your back teeth. Inlays fit into the hole in your tooth, while onlays build up the shape of the tooth. They can be made from metal, composite or porcelain. Porcelain is the ideal choice if you’re looking for something that’s near-invisible.
Extractions
If your tooth is damaged or decayed and can’t be repaired with a filling or crown first, your Dentist may decide to remove (extract) the tooth as a last resort. There are many reasons why you might need to have a tooth removed including tooth decay, gum disease or you may have a broken tooth that cannot be repaired. Having a tooth removed is nothing to worry about, we used local anaesthetic and you will be numb throughout the procedure. Your Dentist will provide all the advice you need about aftercare but it most cases, patients are fine to return to their normal routine on the same day.
Mouthguards & Gumshields
Calling all sports players! Whilst they may be adrenaline heavy and fun-filled, contact sports such as boxing, rugby and hockey are not without their risks including dental trauma. Injuries can be prevented through the use of fitted mouth guards, also known as gumshields. Our bespoke mouth guards are designed specifically for your teeth ensuring a secure fit and making them less likely to fall out if contact is made. Made in our lab using the best of materials they last longer than over the counter alternatives. Mouth guards can be custom made with a colour to suit you or that of your favourite team.
Teeth grinding (also known as bruxism) can cause tooth wear and lead to teeth becoming chipped. It can also cause jaw and neck pain, earache and headaches. You may notice these symptoms more when you first wake up and this is an indication that you are grinding or clenching your teeth during the night. After checking your bite and the pattern of your tooth wear, we may recommend that you wear a mouthguard at night (known as a night guard). Much like a sports mouth guard, night guards are custom made for your teeth, offering maximum comfort whilst you sleep. Designed to keep your upper and lower teeth apart they are highly effective in preventing further tooth wear and are proven to reduce the tension in your jaw muscles.
